Maple Bourbon Cedar Tofu

The summer is winding down and the autumn is almost upon us. This doesn’t mean you should put away your BBQ grill quite yet as we have a delicious grilling recipe for you. The marinade is so simple and the cedar really adds a delightful smoky flavor to your tofu. When you slice into it with your knife you will discover the juicy texture and the taste of the maple and bourbon is out of this world. Happy grilling everybody!

1 block of tofu, we use firm, organic

3/4 cups maple syrup

1/3 cup bourbon, we used Jim Beam’s (it’s vegan)

1 tsp. black pepper

pinch of red pepper flakes

Method of Prep:

Drain and press the block of tofu. After you’ve removed most of the moisture, cut the tofu into four pieces.

In a bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, bourbon, black pepper and red pepper flakes.

Set the tofu into a lidded container, or Ziploc bag and pour the marinade on it, coating all sides.

We allowed our tofu to marinade overnight in the fridge, turning once to ensure the tofu was soaking up all the goodness of the marinade.

Prepare your cedar plank as per the instructions. The one we used recommended soaking it in water for 2 hours.

Light the grill and allow the flame to come down to a medium heat.

Place the marinated tofu on the cedar plank and place on the grill.

Grill for 30 minutes, being sure to keep an eye on it. The tofu will turn a dark brown color.

We served the Maple Bourbon Cedar Tofu with our Asparagus Pecandine.

Serve hot, Enjoy!
