We have been wanting to make vegan “wings” for a while now but we wanted to make sure that they were perfect before we posted it. Well we have great news for you, these are amazing! After biting into one of these lip-smackingly tasty hot “wings” we both licked our fingers and had another and then another until we almost devoured them all before we could take a photo of them. These Sriracha Hot “Wings” would be a perfect snack on game day, movie night or just about anytime you feel like!
“wings”: 2 cups vital wheat gluten
1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes
2 Tbsp. onion powder
4 cups vegetable broth, separated into 1 cup and 3 cups
1 cup almond milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups water
sprinkle of dried parsley
Sriracha Buffalo Sauce: 1 cup Sriracha
1 cup of vegan butter, cold and cut into smaller pieces
Serving suggestion: carrot and celery slices, and our Vegan Blue Chz Dressing
Method of Prep:
In a bowl, combine the vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast flakes, and onion powder, then add 1 cup of vegetable broth. Mix until a dough is formed and the ingredients are homogeneous.
Tear apart pieces of the dough into wing sized pieces.
In a large pot, bring 3 cups of water and 3 cups of vegetable broth to a medium boil.
Drop them into the boiling water and allow to boil for 40 minutes.
After the 40 minutes boiling time is up, strain whatever broth is left (most will be absorbed by the mixture). Pour the almond milk over top of the “wings” and allow them to soak the liquid up for a couple of minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Coat each “wing” with all-purpose flour and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes flipping half way through.
While the “wings” are baking, heat the Sriracha in a small sauce pot over medium heat. Once warmed, remove from the heat and add each of the pieces of cold, vegan butter one at a time while whisking vigorously. Once one piece of butter is melted and combined, add the next.
After the “wings” are finished baking, toss them in the Sriracha Buffalo Sauce and sprinkle some dried parsley on top.
Serve with carrot and celery slices, as well as our Vegan Blue Chz Dressing.
This recipe makes about two dozen “Wings”.
Serve Hot, Enjoy!
